Privacy Policy
Nail Snitch is a macOS menu bar app, operated by POLEN WORKS, UNIPESSOAL LDA (a Portuguese company), that uses your Mac's webcam and Apple Vision to detect nail biting. This policy explains what that means for your data — and why, for the most part, there isn't any.
Camera Use
Nail Snitch needs access to your Mac's camera to do its job. The camera feed is analyzed in real time by Apple Vision, Apple's on-device computer vision framework. Frames are processed in memory and discarded. No frame, image, video, or derived biometric template is written to disk, uploaded, or shared with us or anyone else.
You can revoke camera access at any time in macOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.
Snap Alert
Snap Alert is an optional feature you can enable or disable in Settings → Alerts. When it is on and a bite is detected, Nail Snitch displays the still frame from that moment in an on-screen panel for approximately five seconds and then discards it. The frame is never saved to disk, added to any photo library, uploaded, or shared. If you prefer no visual, turn Snap Alert off and keep only the audio alert.
What We Don't Collect
Because Nail Snitch is designed to run entirely offline, we do not collect:
- Your webcam images or video
- Your name, email, phone number, or other identifiers
- Your location
- Device identifiers, IP addresses, or hardware fingerprints
- Usage analytics, event logs, or telemetry
- Crash reports, unless you choose to send one via Apple's standard reporting tools
Purchases
Nail Snitch is sold through the Mac App Store. Apple processes the transaction, not us. Apple may share limited, aggregated sales information with us (for example, the country of sale) as described in Apple's developer and customer privacy policies. We do not receive your name, payment details, or Apple ID.
Local Data
Nail Snitch stores your preferences — sensitivity, sounds, streak counters, mute status — locally on your Mac using standard macOS storage. This data stays on your device. Uninstalling the app removes it.
Third Parties
Nail Snitch does not embed third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. The app does not make outbound network requests as part of its detection or streak features.
Children
Nail Snitch is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated “Last updated” date.
